Campo Cebas
is  just 7 kms from Castril, a pretty little white village, with steep cobbled streets and surrounded by mountains. It is well loved by the Spanish and set amidst the Castril National Park and bordering the famous Cazorla National Park.

The Sierras Magazine and Castril Information Centre offers advice to visitors  on holiday or those considering moving to this area.

What time of year is best for you?

  • Winter / Invierno - Clear skies with long vistas and fantastic cloud formations (but cold nights and pleasant  days). Chance of rain!
  • Spring /Primavera - Almond blossom and poppies abound (still chilly at night but warm in the day). Great time for walking and exploring.
  • Summer /Verano - Swimming pools are open and big fiestas in all the villages can be enjoyed (but hot, hot, hot!).
  • Autumn / Otoño - cooling down after summer and starting to prepare for winter, a great time for walking, photography and exploring (slightly cooler days and nights chilly).

What's the weather doing now?

The Sierra de Castril.

Haven't  heard about this area before?

                             Dramatic scenery

                             Photographic heaven

Tourism is virtually non existent here
, save for the summer when Spanish arrive in July and August, or for one of the many national or local fiestas. Sleepy villages spring to life.  People enjoy the peace and tranquility of the campo, and the warmth and fun of the fiestas, often partying on until 6am. How do they do it?

Take a step back in time, and experience the  simple way of life here.

This area is very laid back simple Spain...not much seems to happen here, except the locals going about their day to day living, and taking time to chat to an amigo.

Goats, sheep, chickens and pigs
are kept by our neighbours. Hectares of Olive and Almond trees as far as the eye can see. Home grown vegetables of every description are boundless. Jar upon jar of tomato frito, peaches, membrillo in the store, hams and homemade sausages drying. Self sufficiency at its best!

Nature paradise.. woodpeckers, black redstarts,  swifts and swallows, bee eaters, hoopoes, tits and brightly coloured finches. In spring there is a chorus like a symphony orchestra as birds congregate on a large oak tree nearby!  Griffon vultures  look very beautiful in the air catching the thermals around Castril. Amazing when in groups of as many as 40 or so!!

WHAT CAN I EXPECT ON MY All Inclusive / Fully Catered HOLIDAY?

  • Every day of your holiday will be different, and tailored to what you really want.

Fiesta's happen all year round..but Summer offers the best choice.

This young lady shows typical Spanish enthusiasm for  fiesta!

Moriscos y Cristianos Fiesta in Cullar, Granada.

Digital camera is a must here...it's quite easy to take 200 photos!

There is at least one market locally for every day of the week.  Stalls full of beautifully colourful fresh fruit and vegetables, cheese and salted fish, olives, .... etc. All at great prices!

'I will never forget market day in Pozo Alcon.  Narrow streets lined with stalls seemed to wind on forever! Heady scents from the herb merchants mingled with the aromas of roasting chicken and fresh baked bread.  Dipping into a cafe I was delighted, surprised and bewildered by the choice of gorgeous cakes and pastries on offer' JL 2008

Great places  we think you will want to visit.

Baza and Huescar are local towns that offer a more up tempo atmosphere. Shops and cafes abound, and they bustle with people, cars etc. There is a beautiful church and lovely gardens in Huescar.

Baza is much bigger, so choices are greater. A Turkish Bath in a cave hotel, where one could enjoy a refreshing Morocan tea. The drive to Baza will take us past the magnificent Lake Negratin (see pic) and its dam, and the Thermal Springs at Zujar, open every day of the year, so for two euros one can enjoy the health giving properties of the warm spring whilst overlooking majestic Negratin, and then enjoy a drink in the  very comfortable cafe.

It is quite possible  to be the only person standing overlooking this magnificent lake, it is quite surreal.

Huescar.
Iglesia de Santiago.

Cuevas del Campo has the most amazing beach with far reaching views of Lake Negratin, and offers "Texil O Natur"....meaning with or without ones' swimsuit!

It's  possible one could have the beach to oneself out of high season (July-August)!

Cuevas del Campo is world famous for its' re-enactment of the Crucifixion and Resurrection of Christ.   For three days in  April (Easter) every year the whole village takes on a new meaning. Actors and locals take part, all in the dress of the era. Some 15000 people descend here to see this amazingly real historical spectacle. We could plan your trip around this spectacle!  Semana Santa Viviente

Galera's history dates back to the Bronze Age. There is a  museum with many artefacts from archeological digs. El Castellon Alto is a monument containing the remains of a Bronze Age settlement. Well worth a visit.

Galera is a fascinating Cavehouse community, with many British residents. Many Spaniards can't understand why anyone would want to live in a cave (cueva), they have moved into the 20th century, and like the comforts of central heating and double glazing!

Guadix and the Cuevas! A fascinating landscape of rusty red moonscape peaks, tree plantations and caves. There is a Cave Museum, a cathedral and numerous shops selling local terracotta pottery. Surrounded by mountainous peaks and  the tail of the Sierra Nevadas. Quadix has an eerie strangeness, but must be visited! What more can we say?

Your holiday includes a visit to  Granada city and surrounds

ALHAMBRA.....one very good reason to visit Andalucia. The Alhambra and Generalife gardens certainly live up to their reputation.  Just  wander and absorb the atmosphere and imagine what passed in its' history. Here one sees the very essence of the colourful Moors and Christians.

Wander down from the Alhambra to the Albaicin ,the old quarter of Granada. Fantastic architecture abounds, streets lined with gift shops, pavement cafes and busking musicians. Treat yourself at the Hamman!

Sacromonto is the area of Flamenco and the Spanish Gypsy (Gitano), where there are lively late night (start 10.30pm+)  Flamenco shows.

Granada Fex....is a Music & Dance Festival held every year in fantastic venues like the Alhambra!

Jaen Province - Pozo Alcon, Cazorla, Ubeda and Baeza

Travelling north east from Campo Cebas we enter into Jaen Province and the famous Cazorla National Park.

Ubeda and Baeza were  inscribed in the World Heritage List  on 3rd July 2003UNESCO has stated that these cities , more than any other place in the world, exemplify the humanist Spanish Renaissence, cities where the human hand had constructed  unique and everlasting work.

Baeza
is the exponent of public architecture   and religious instititions, and Ubeda to private architechture and civic institutions.

Cazorla is a beautiful white village on the border of the National Park said to be home to a home to many species of animals, birds, flora and fauna, many protected in this invironment. The Iberian Lynx to name but one.

The Cueva del Agua is certainly worth a visit, expecially as the trip to it takes in the Sanctuario del Tesori. Climb winding roads sitting on steep descents, with pine trees and rocky crags, set above olive trees as far as the eye see. Rugged beauty at its best.

NOTE: that Jaen Province produces the largest amount of Olives in Spain, and 20% of the world crop. Indeed it boasts the best olives and oil in the world! So as far as the eye can see, its beautiful olive trees.  Aceituna is  olive in Spanish.

A couple more  reasons why you will love it here!

  • Well..... the pound to the euro isn't what it was, but this area offers real value for money. No "costa prices".
  • Once your All-In holiday is paid, we think  there will be very little you will need to purchase other than souvenirs and the odd beverage,  1 euro buys a coffee, beer, wine....and in Granada province all beers and wines come with a free tapas.
  • If you are on a B&B holiday, there is plenty of choice of very cheap restaurants, where one can get a three course lunchtime meal for 10  euros..including wine!!

Well thats just a little about this wonderful area....please contact us to find out more.
